Innovation in Mushroom Cultivation

At Bertels B.V., we believe that even the most established crops offer room for innovation. That’s why we are developing a new cultivation stimulant that can significantly increase the biomass and quality of mushrooms.

Why this innovation?

Mushroom cultivation is an important pillar within Dutch and European horticulture. Worldwide, mushrooms are valued for their nutritional profile and versatility. Yet, innovation within the sector has been relatively stable for some time. With this development, we aim to change that.

Our cultivation stimulant is designed to:

  • Increase yield
  • Accelerates primordia formation
  • Improves uniformity

Tested in practice

To evaluate its performance in a real cultivation environment, the stimulant is currently being tested at Champignonkwekerij Willems B.V. (Family Verdellen). This practical trial serves as a demo case and proof of concept, allowing us to monitor and refine the results under day-to-day growing conditions.

This innovation marks an important step towards more sustainable and profitable mushroom cultivation, with potential applications in other mushroom varieties and cultivation systems.
